Corporate Partnership Opportunities
We are pleased to announce the debut of our new Corporate Partnership Program and to welcome our inaugural partner, CompuMed.   Partnerships offer organizations and companies highly visible, year-long recognition through our website, ENews, membership listings and other CSHC materials.

CompuMed first supported CSHC as a bronze level sponsor at our 2010 regional conferences.  CompuMed has a special program offering EKG equipment to SBHCs and realized that our conference participants were the perfect audience for their message.   CompuMed saw our Corporate Partnership Program as an opportunity to continue the dialogue with our stakeholders and were thrilled to have another avenue to support the school health center movement.  The CSHC partnership has also provided CompuMed with a way to showcase their community support on their website and in corporate communications.

Corporate partnership levels range from $2,500 to $10,000 and offer a variety of benefits depending on the level selected.  Our Corporate Partner web page  feature partner logos, links to websites and short messages from partners to our stakeholders.   This is a great opportunity for partners to provide information to SBHCs about special offers or services.  Partners will also have the opportunity to include a promotional message in one of our bi-monthly Enewsletters (distribution 1,200+).  Our partnership year runs concurrently with our membership year from September 1st to August 31st.

For more information about our Corporate Partnerships contact Kristin Andersen at 510-268-1160.

2010 Regional conferences in Fresno and LA a success!
CSHC is batting a thousand when it comes to hosting regional conferences. Two of our three conferences have been rousing successes, attracting a passionate and energetic crowd of people from diverse fields all focused on one mission – supporting healthy children and successful students! CSHC’s Fresno conference (Feb. 19) and Los Angeles conference (March 9) drew everyone from school nurses, doctors and mental health care providers to school board members, school administrators, school legal counsel, and clinic staff. Here is a sampling of some of the feedback:

• “Great conference and plenty of time for networking and talking with exhibitors.”
• “I loved the interactive style of the workshops.”
• “I was able to gain knowledge and framework to work with the school and community organizations.”

Many thanks to our conference hosts – the Fresno County Office of Education and the California Endowment – for donating the space; and to our sponsors and exhibitors, who have enabled us to keep registration costs affordable.

Shining Star Awards Given at Fresno Regional Conference
Riverbank USD, Stockton USD, Clovis USD School Health Partnerships and the Fresno County Office of Education each received a Shining Star award at our Fresno Regional Conference in February. CSHC recognized these organizations for their outstanding work and leadership in the school health movement. We congratulate each one for leading the way in the Central Valley.

Three Recognized at Los Angeles Regional Conference
Louise McCarthy with Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles, Janis Lake with Los Angeles USD, and Sandra Jones with Watts Healthcare Corporation were all honored at our Los Angeles conference in March for their significant contributions to the school health movement. All three have been tireless in their efforts to advocate for and promote school health centers in the Los Angeles area.

CSHC Receives Grant from National Institute of Reproductive Health
CSHC is one of three organizations that were recently awarded grants from the National Institute of Reproductive Health to host a Policy Leadership Institute on comprehensive sexual health education. CSHCs Policymaker Leadership Institute is tentatively scheduled for December 2010 and will focus on equipping school board members to promote comprehensive sexual health education programs. For more information on participating in this event, please email our Los Angeles Field Coordinator, Sang Leng Trieu.

New Formal Alliance with NASBHC
CSHC is pleased to announce that it is now an official "state affiliate" of the National Assembly on School Based Health Care. We are one of 16 state organizations to have become an official affiliate since the program was launched in the fall of 2009. It is our hope that this more formal alliance with NASBHC will build a stronger and more effective network of national, state, and local partners working to achieve our shared vision that all children are healthy and achieving to their fullest potential.

CSHC Youth Board Speak Up for Youth at the 2010 NASBHC Convention
Youth Board members Manuel Castaño, Becky Lee, Nzugu Kitenge, Dale Maglalang, and Jessica Guevara represented CSHC at this year's NASBHC Convention in Washington, D.C. The five members helped coordinate NASBHC's Advocacy Day by organizing the almost 40 youth leaders who hailed from Maine, North Carolina, and Maryland. In addition to completing 21 legislative visits on the Hill, Youth Board members facilitated workshops for the youth attendees that promoted inter-generational networking and local public health advocacy work. More photos from the 2010 Convention and Advocacy Day, are posted on our website.

Founding Youth Board Members Moving On
CSHC would like to thank Alison Wu and Bertrand Perdomo-Ucles, founding members of our Youth Board, for their years of service to CSHC. Bertrand, an alumnus of Manual Arts High School and rising fourth-year at the University of Southern California, aims to pursue a career in public policy. He has just finished the Public Policy and International Affairs Program at the Richard & Rhoda Goldman School of Public Policy for the summer and will be studying in Greece this upcoming fall. Alison, a former member of Balboa High School Teen Health Center's Youth Advisory Board and rising fourth-year at the University of California at Davis, will be in studying the United Kingdom for the 2010-2011 year. Both Alison and Bertrand are of the original five members that composed the Youth Board in its pilot year in 2007. We thank them for their dedication and energy to put health care in schools and to lift up youth voices in school health center advocacy.

First-Ever Youth Conference
At CSHC's Oakland regional conference, Northern California CSHC Youth Board members facilitated the organization's first-ever youth conference: “Reach and Connect: Fresh Ways to Outreach and Build Stronger Partnerships in Our Communities.” With youth attendees from various East Bay high schools, the youth conference offered workshops on multimedia outreach campaigns, communications and networking activities, and a guided discussion on youth-adult partnerships. The success of this conference has inspired new ideas for the Youth Board's high school engagement work for the upcoming year!

Youth Board Planning Ahead and Off to NASBHC
In mid-May, the CSHC Youth Board members convened in Oakland for their third and final in-person meeting of the year. At the meeting, the Youth Board shared their regional achievements, evaluated their group and personal work in school health advocacy, and brainstormed activities for 2010-2011. Youth Board members also planned their upcoming NASBHC convention involvement with the high school youth who will be attending the national meeting in Virginia in June. Support our Youth Board as they lead and encourage youth at this nationwide event!

Youth Board Speak Out
CSHCs Youth Board brought their passion and energy to our LA and Fresno regional conferences by staffing an exhibit table, networking with conference participants and facilitating the Youth Engagement lunchtime table discussion. Youth Board members also co-presented "A Bigger Bandwagon: Getting More Stakeholder Support," a workshop on strategic community engagement. The Youth Board also participated heavily in CSHC's advocacy efforts for health care reform. Taking to the phones, sending e-mails, and writing letters-to-the-editors, members demonstrated their support for health care reform and for putting school-based health care on the national agenda.
