School Health Champion Criteria

This award is given annually to honor champions in the fields of health policy, school district administration, and school health providers in California. Below are the categories and criteria that the California School-Based Health Alliance Board of Directors takes into consideration for each nominee.

Policy/Legislative

  • History of advocacy for school health services
  • Strong advocate for funding school health services
  • Elected or a government appointee
  • Active in innovating new approaches to bring health to schools and/or creating access to health services in schools

School District/Governance

  • Board Member
  • District Administrator, Principal
  • Advocate for student health
  • Outspoken for student health
  • Evidence of endorsing school health services

Provider/Practitioner

  • In addition to individual medical provider, can be a health educator
  • Works in collaboration and in partnership with schools
  • Not necessarily an on-site provider (mobile provider, off site provider championing school health services)
