Regional Asthma Management and Prevention Initiative (RAMP)
RAMP is a regional coalition of health departments, health plans, community-based organizations, hospitals, government agencies, providers and community members in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, and Solano counties committed to addressing asthma morbidity and mortality. American Lung Association The Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative Toolkit is a planning tool based on real-life activities that have been used in schools throughout the United States to create comprehensive asthma management systems. The toolkit presents a framework and provides the tools for community organizations and schools to assess the school’s needs, including review of current capabilities and opportunities to strengthen infrastructure, education, and support to ensure that children with asthma are healthy, in school, and ready to learn. The toolkit is intended for use by community organizations as they collaborate with schools. The process and details in the Toolkit provide in-depth planning and activities that are complementary to the Center for Disease Control’s Strategies for Addressing Asthma within a Coordinated School Health Program. American Diabetes Association
The American Diabetes Association offers a wealth of information for schools, school health providers, parents, students, and teachers related to understanding diabetes and school-based diabetes management. They also offer a free resource Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel. Use this comprehensive guide designed to empower school personnel, parents, and students to create a safe learning environment and equal access to educational opportunities for all children with diabetes. The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network
The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network website offers a number of tools and resources for schools to manage students with severe food allergies, and prevent anaphylactic reactions in schools. Some resources are for free download, and some are available at a fee. The FAAN’s School Food Allergy Program (SFAP) is a comprehensive, multimedia program that includes a video, EpiPen® trainer, poster, and binder filled with more than 100 pages of information and standardized forms.
The Families and Advocates Partnership for Education Project
This is a partnership that aims to improve the educational outcomes for children with disabilities. FAPE links families, advocates, and self-advocates to information about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The project is designed to address the information needs of the 6 million families throughout the U.S. whose children with disabilities receive special education services. FAPE offers numerous publications that are of value to school providers as well, as they support or participate in school-based management of students with disabilities, including processes related to individualized education plans and special education.
