OUSD Youth Wellness Champions

The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Youth Wellness Champions are the youth arm of the Bechtel Foundation-funded Oakland Wellness Initiative for healthier school environments at five Oakland schools. Groups of youth from Oakland, Oakland Technical, and Fremont high schools, as well as West Oakland and Urban Promise Academy middle schools coordinate wellness campaigns for their campuses.

For 2011-2012, the young people are working on a range of projects from clean water access to health education for elementary school students. The Youth Wellness Champions will be convening in February 2012 to discuss steps for a district-wide, youth-led wellness campaign.
