In 2007, five young people formed our Youth Board, a group of school health advocates from across California committed to the advancement of school-based health care. The Youth Board has continuously worked to provide technical assistance, advocate for school health policies and ensure that youth engagement is a priority locally, statewide, and nationally. Our Youth Board members bring experience in adolescent health, school health, and community organizing that energizes our commitment to youth voice in school health.
CSHA has partnered with Oakland Unified School District to provide training and support to student leaders through OUSD’s All City Council. Five sites within the district focus on training youth to lead nutrition and wellness advocacy efforts on their campuses to bring student voice into decision making.
The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) SBHC Youth Advisory Boards are the youth advisory groups for the seven school-based health centers located on WCCUSD’s high school campuses. These groups of student health advocates from seven different high schools, work to promote health access on their school campuses and support each of the district’s seven school-based health centers.
